Dave Bautista Is Open To Returning To The MCU On One Condition

Dave Bautista talks about Drax and his time with Marvel

Dave Bautista, who starred as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, says he is open to returning to the studio if James Gunn asks.

The star told ComicBook that though he thinks the character of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy has run its course, he would relish the chance to portray another character.

He said: “Drax is completely closed to me. Unless James Gunn called me and asked if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn’t be interested. [That is,] if James called me, which obviously is not gonna happen. He’s doing okay, he’s gone a different route.”

Gunn, who previously directed several Marvel films, has become the co-head of DC Studios. He has directed Superman, which will be released in cinemas on July 11, 2025.

I do wanna be in that world, I’m a fan of that world, I’m a fan of comic books and that whole universe,” Bautista continued. “Marvel, DC, I just wanna be in it. I made that known to James, I made that known to the Russo brothers. Personally, I talked to them, all of them, and told them, ‘Don’t count me out. If there’s a character that I’d be right for and that you want me for, man, I’d be totally open-minded to it.’ It’s just the Drax character ran its course.”

Bautista first appeared in the MCU in 2016 with Guardians alongside co-stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper, which was directed by Gunn. He went on to star in the sequels as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Another Avengers film is currently in the works under the name Avengers: Doomsday. It is set to release in 2026 but it is not clear whether the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear.
