Snow White Premieres “Scaled Back” As Disney Prepares For Live-Action Release

It seems Disney is doing some damage control with their release of Snow White with changes to the film’s publicity campaign on both sides of the pond before its release in two weeks.
Per Variety, this Saturday sees the film’s Hollywood premiere but its red carpet has been scaled back substantially, with only photographers and a house crew being part of the usual media line, and dozens of usual entertainment outlets not attending as usual. It follows news that the UK premiere, which was due to take place in the next week or so, has been cancelled amid the controversies surrounding the film, though reports suggest that there were never plans for a UK premiere, or indeed a junket over here, as would be the norm.
The film, directed by Marc Webb, stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, and has already been in the public eye for various reasons, not least Zegler’s original quotes about the film in 2022, saying: “It’s no longer 1937 . . . She’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”
At the moment, the film is tracking for a $50-$65million opening weekend, but that number could well shrink when it eventually comes out.
Stay tuned for our review of the film next week.
Snow White releases in cinemas on March 21st.
